5/2/09 -- Dessert Tasting

Thank you to everyone who helped support our fundraising efforts to purchase needed construction materials. Judith Nelson headed up the event, and did an outstanding job. Pam and Ron Houck opened up Mood Swing, The Club, and Link River Ramblers provided the musical entertainment for the evening. The donated baked goods for the dessert tastings were all so delicious it was hard to choose a favorite. Many individuals and businesses donated items for the silent auction, and Christina Wilson offered 10-minute massages. Attendees were also introduced to Kitty Terry, our new Habitat Partner Family who will become our next Habitat Homeowner. To go from idea to event in less than 10 days shows the dedication and hard work of the volunteers involved. Thank you all.

5/2/09 -- Boat Raffle Winner

Mike Greenstreet gives Mike Royle the keys to the boat.

Congratulations to Mike Royle for winning our boat raffle. He receives the 1999 DuroPro 15ft fishing boat, complete with trailer and 35hp Johnson outboard engine. Also as part of the winning package, he receives the Eagle Fishfinder, oars, life preservers and a lure retriever. Mike was happily towing the boat away from the ReStore less than 30 minutes after being informed he was our lucky winner. Klamath Falls City Councilwoman Betty Dickson's 14-year-old grandson, Joseph Thorpe, drew the winning ticket. Thank you to everyone who purchased a ticket (or several).

Ed with his certificate of excellence.

Ed Williams receives a Certificate of Excellence from Klamath Country United Way. Klamath Basin Habitat for Humanity nominated Ed as the Volunteer of the Year. Even though he was not a finalist, we are all very proud of him, and appreciate the many hours he volunteers. Ed is a Board Member, helps on construction, chairs the ReStore Committee and also puts in many hours helping any way he can at the ReStore. Thank You Ed for volunteering with Klamath Basin Habitat for Humanity. You're our volunteer of the year.

2/8/09 -- New ReStore Sign Installed

The Klamath Basin Habitat for Humanity ReStore sign is installed and definitely very visible to Washburn Way traffic. Many thanks to Shane and Wendy Jarvi of Expert Tree Care. They donated their time and truck to install the new sign.

2/7/09 -- Thank You Dinner

Klamath Basin Habitat for Humanity donors and volunteers were honored during the “Hats Off to Our Volunteers and Donors” annual Thank You dinner, held Feb. 7, 2009 at the Children’s Museum of Klamath Falls. Attendees were encouraged to wear a hat, and prizes were given for the Most Original, Prettiest, Oldest, and People’s Choice.

1/1/09 -- ReStore Grants

Klamath Basin Habitat for Humanity received ReStore start-up grants from Oregon's Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) – Solid Waste Program, and the South Central Oregon Economic Development Department (SCOEDD). The DEQ award was $39,500 for specific business start-up costs, and SCOEDD awarded $5,000 for job creation. We appreciate these organizations recognizing the need for our ReStore, and their willingness to help out financially.

11/3/08 -- Jeannie Boese

Board President Cindy Moore gives Jeannie Boese a cerificate of recognition.

Jeannie Boese, Board of Directors Secretary for the past six years, stepped down from the office after reaching her official term limit. At Jeannie's final board meeting on November 4, 2008, Board President Cindy Moore presented her a Certificate of Recognition for all her hard work and dedication. "We will really miss Jeannie. She has rarely missed a meeting, and has been a great volunteer and supporter for our organization." Jeannie intends to stay involved by handling the function of recording volunteer hours, and other office duties as needed.

10/6/08 -- ReStore Grand Opening

Monday, October 6th marked the official Grand Opening of the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, located at 2520 Washburn Way. Board of Directors President Cindy Moore and ReStore Manager Michael Greenstreet had the honor of cutting the ribbon, while Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, two County Commissioners, City Council representatives and other community members helped out. News media and volunteers snapped photos of the momentous occasion.

This event was held in conjunction with World Habitat Day, an annual event created by the United Nations. “This is not one of our regular days to be open” states ReStore Manger Michael Greenstreet, “but we felt this was a great opportunity to combine both events.”

Early arrivals received a World Habitat Day pin and some lucky recipients got a World Habitat Day t-shirt. The raffle for the DuroPro fishing boat officially started as well with some attendees purchasing tickets before they left. Everyone involved felt the day was a great success.

Current store hours are: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm. Posted hours will expand as the need for additional hours grows.

Did you know? Mike Royle won the Duro fishing boat. With luck like this, he should be landing some big fish this year.
